Coastline, Paparoa National Park
At the edge of the Paparoa National Park is a coastline stacked with pancakes and other forms of sea-sculpture. The pancake effect is the result of erosion – soft layers of mudstone wear away faster than hard layers of limestone. The rock phenomena continues inland, where caves and gorges keep the landscape interesting.
