Nelson Helicopters Ltd
Lifting off from our base at Nelson Airport, we flyover the glimmering waters and sandy shoreline of Rabbit Island. Heading towards the Takaka Hill, we fly over the filming location for Chetwood Forest. Nearby is the world famous Harwoods Hole which we circle before continuing over the Kahurangi National Park to Mt Olympus. Crossing the deep valleys we soon arrive at the strange pinnacle rock formations that were used to portray the jagged country south of Rivendale. We land here on Eregion Hill, the site of filming for the scene where the fellowship hides from the black crows. We have a short time to take in the spectacular sights from this remote, isolated area which can only be reached by helicopter.
