Kaikoura – two hours’ drive north of Christchurch, on the east coast of New Zealand’s South Island. Kaikoura is the centre for world famous whale watching, ocean swimming with dolphins, and other marine and land-based activities.
The i-SITE Visitor Centre has been operating for 19 years and is the focal point in Kaikoura (population 3,800) for tourists and visitors who require information and booking services.
Last year Kaikoura received more than 900,000 visitors. Dramatic growth in visitor numbers is occurring because of the growing worldwide awareness and interest in conservation of marine mammals and eco-tourism activities.
