Guests Go Green at Hapuku Lodge

Going green has just become a whole lot easier for guests staying at one of Kaikoura's top accommodation providers.
Hapuku Lodge has just announced an eco package that will see the carbon footprint of their guests completely offset by a tree planting initiative.
The lodge is part of Kaikoura's world-leading Green Globe initiative, and through its spring Eco-Package guests staying in a Tree House will have the total CO2 emissions of their flights and journey to Kaikoura calculated and offset through the lodge's ongoing tree planting program.
Owner, Tony Wilson stated, "Adding to the environmental concern at the lodge, our tree planting program is a step toward lessening our guests' carbon-foot prints'."
In an effort to help make New Zealand tourism sustainable, Hapuku Lodge's goal is to reduce the CO2 and to help restore depleted local forests, encouraging regeneration of the native bird population, which includes rare and endangered species.
Hapuku Lodge's efforts also include: solar heating of the Lodge's water, recycling or composting the majority of Lodge's waste, high-spec insulation, efficient light bulbs, and the use of sustainable natural building materials wherever possible. The Lodge has already planted in excess of 10,000 native trees during their ongoing landscaping work.
