It comes naturally
New Zealand is a spa destination with a difference. While many spas in other countries are entirely manufactured, New Zealand's approach to spa services has been to enhance the offerings of the natural environment, with bathing in natural hot springs a key attraction. Images of Hanmer Springs in the South Island, with people enjoying hot springs surrounded by snow-topped trees and mountains, epitomise the natural advantage New Zealand has in providing an holistic experience for locals and tourists alike.
There are essentially three types of spas available in New Zealand - hot spring spas; destination spas or retreats; day spas - and combinations of the three. Best examples of hot spring spas are the Polynesian Spa in the North Island and Hanmer Springs in the South Island. Best-known destination spas include Kimi Ora Spa Resort in Nelson, and Kina Colada in Nelson. The best example of a fully serviced day spa - a still young concept in New Zealand - is Auckland's splendid Servilles Spa opened in March 2001.
