Te Manawa: museum, gallery, science centre
At the heart of Manawatu region, Te Manawa is the only institution of its kind in New Zealand to unite a museum, art gallery and interactive science centre, to create a unique fusion of life, art and mind experiences.
The constantly changing exhibition programme features nationally significant collections, innovative hands on interactive shows and regularly hosts major international touring exhibitions.
The education team at Te Manawa offers hand-on programmes for visiting groups. Programme areas include: Manawatu Gorge - Maori and European History, Heritage, Art Maori Studies Programme.
Te Manawa’s Kaiwhina, Manu Kawana, presents a range of programmes that enable participants to experience Maori arts, crafts and traditions. Programme areas include: Hanga Taputapu (Toolmaking), Manu Tukutuku (Kites), Nga Momo Takaro (Games), Ranranga (Weaving), Taonga Puoro (Traditional Musical Instruments).
