Sam Neill - Wily Ace of Vines
Kiwi Hollywood star Sam Neill owns a vineyard, over three sites, in Queenstown in the South Island, known as Two Paddocks. Two Paddocks' first vintage was a pinot noir produced in 1997. The Two Paddocks wine labels each feature a flower of significance in the Central Otago area. Neill believes the Central Otago area will be recognised as one of the very few areas in the world that can make great pinot noir, but Neill has also planted riesling in the expectation that this will be as successful.
Neill isn't the only Hollywood star growing grapes in the Queenstown area. Director Roger Donaldson is Neill's next-door neighbour. His vineyard is named, aptly enough, Donaldson Vineyards.
