A chat with the concierge of New Zealand luxury hotels can reveal the dedication to exceptional service of top hotel and lodge staff. At the website of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World organisation, the concierges of some members reveal their ever-expanding role. As an example, the concierge at Blanket Bay in Otago was asked to advise on, and arrange, a marriage proposal with a guaranteed 'yes' response. The couple were flown to an inaccessible mountain lake, and left with a radio telephone and appropriate champagne. Fortunately the answer was yes… Again at Blanket Bay, the concierge was asked by a woman visitor to ‘please tell my husband that he is to be a father’.

At Wharekauhau Country Estate, Featherston, the concierge received a call from guests who had stayed at the hotel six months earlier to ask if he could send flowers to friends in New Zealand whose horse was sick!
