What is your favourite place in New Zealand?
I am pretty much a stay at home person. I enjoy my hometown of Wellington and spending time with my family.
What do you do in your spare time?
I like to take my daughter swimming and to the beaches. I do a lot of diving; there are some great dive spots around Wellington. I dive both for pleasure and for getting a feed.
What does the haka mean to you?
Personally when I am out there on the field I am performing the haka for mainly myself, but it’s also for my family and friends. It means different things to different people but for me it’s a time to bring in the family and think about how fortunate we are to be wearing the black jersey.
Why do you think New Zealand produces such good rugby players?
I think the cultural balance that New Zealand has within the team helps. Also we have little kids playing from a young age. Kiwis just love to get out there and show what they’re all about and express themselves and their love of the game. I think that is probably the key to the New Zealand’s success on the rugby field.
How important is the 2007 World Cup to you?
I’d say it’s very important to everyone as we haven’t held the trophy for a while. It’s going to be very tough; it always is, both physically and mentally.
Why did you want to become an All Black?
After I left college I just wanted to get better and better. I was fortunate enough to get into the team, that was the easy part done. The hard work is maintaining the spot!
