2007 RWC All Black: Mils Muliaina

Malili Muliaina (known as "Mils") was born in Salelesi, Samoa on the 31st July 1980. Brought up in New Zealand's most southern city, Invercargill, he first came sprang to prominence at a national level when he shifted north to Auckland to attend boarding school and immediately made it into the New Zealand schools team.
He is already an All Black veteran playing 52 tests and scoring 75 test points. He's described as a strong and dependable back with good pace and a dangerous counterattacking ability.

What's your favourite place in New Zealand?
I like the North Island and Whangamata. I like the seafood and the surf. I also like Invercargill because that's where I grew up. It's nice and peaceful.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like surfing, although I'm not very good at it. I try and do a bit of fishing and I just got my diving ticket.

How would you describe New Zealand to a person from overseas?
New Zealand is clean and green and the people are friendly. The Southern Alps provide awesome views, and the golden sand beaches aren't too far away. It's a very small country that embraces all cultures.

Why do you think New Zealand produces such good rugby players?
It's our history, our kids grow up wanting to play the number one sport, and we've got great coaches. Also, parents really get involved with their children which helps. I grew up always wanting to be an All Black.

What does the haka mean to you?
I've learnt a lot about the haka recently and about its traditions. It's an awesome feeling being out on the field and performing the haka.

If you wanted to go somewhere special in New Zealand, where would it be?
I really like going to Queenstown. I've done a few bungy jumps. The scenery there is great, whether it's winter or another season. It's a great place!
