On Yer Bike Winery Tour
One of New Zealand's best-known wine regions - Hawke's Bay - offers a cycle tour with a difference. The On Yer Bike Winery Tour sees riders choose mountain bike, tandem bike or opting for a leisurely chauffeur-driven rickshaw. Cyclists are provided with a cellphone to call back to base to pick up wine purchased at the wineries on the tour. There are three routes available: route 1 is 14km (8.7 miles) and takes around two to three hours; route two is 17.2km (10.7 miles) and takes around three and a half hours; route three is 22.6km (14 miles) and takes around three to five hours. Riders can take their own lunch or lunch at the luxurious Sileni vineyard, or Te Awa Farm. A similar tour is offered by operators in Marlborough (at the top of the South Island), New Zealand's best known vineyard area.
