Tough Alpine Challenge

Experienced and fit hikers relish the opportunity to tackle the Ball Pass, a three-day alpine trek crossing the Mount Cook Range in the South Island from the Tasman to the Hooker Valley.

The route provides spectacular views of New Zealand’s highest mountains: Aoraki/Mt Cook, Mt Sefton, as well as the Copland Pass and the Hooker and Tasman Glaciers. Hikers also have the opportunity to see rich alpine flora and unique native bird life.

The Ball Pass should not be attempted without a guide unless the hiker is an experienced mountaineer. The Pass is a route, not a marked track.
