Dororo filmed in New Zealand

28 Nov 2006

Japanese blockbuster movie 'Dororo' was shot over a six week period from January 2006 in summer, in New Zealand. The alpine village of Methven was the film crew and production team's main base while filming.

'Dororo', originally produced by Japanese celebrity cartoon writer Osamu Tezuka 40 years ago, and thought impossible to film has finally become an adventurous movie. The action director Ching Siutung, said, 'I was more creative than ever before. On top of that, here New Zealand is beautiful. I am hoping you are thrilled and impressed by the beauty of the landscape while you are watching.'

New Zealand's most famous film production is undoubtedly Kiwi director Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, filmed entirely in New Zealand. However, recent box office successes such as King Kong, The World's Fastest Indian and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe have again showcased New Zealand's dramatic scenery and cemented its reputation as a world class filming location.

The movie 'Dororo' beyond the standard of Japanese movie cost two billion yen (approx. NZ $30 million). Even though public screenings do not start until on 27 January 2007 in Japan, it has been confirmed that 'Dororo' will be shown in over 20 countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Brazil, Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
