New way to get the heart pumping for thrill seekers
07 Sep 2006
The Nevis Arc will open in 2007 and will be a 125m swing accessed from a 70 metre-long bridge suspended by steel cables over Doolan's Creek in Central Otago.
The Nevis Arc will complement the existing 134-metre Nevis Highwire Bungy and will be the first of a range of new products launched at the Nevis site in the near future.
'There's no doubt the Nevis Arc will join the Nevis Highwire Bungy as one of the 'must-do' thrill and adventure activities in New Zealand,' says AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand founder Henry van Asch.
'I guarantee people will be blown away - you'll accelerate for eight-and-a-half seconds past rock faces, before swinging out over the valley in a massive arc of 40m, 80m, or 125m. It will be extreme and exhilarating all at once.'
The arc rope will be attached to a power-driven winding drum above the swing bridge jump platform, and clients will leap out feet or head first attached to the rope by a full body harness. They will be able to choose from three arc diameters, have a choice of positions and will be able to swing tandem with a friend.
Further products under development include a multi-lane flying fox to enable customers to share in the adventure with their 'mates'. It will be designed to appeal to the adventurous at heart who may be not quite up to the bungy or swing challenge.
When the market demands a higher bungy, Henry van Asch and his team at AJ Hackett Bungy also have plans for bungy to reach new heights.
The 'Black Box' will be a sculptural bungy platform to be reached with customer participation in a series of flying foxes and cables. Once customers arrive at the 'Black Box', jumpers will complete the 200 metre-plus bungy adventure and return to civilisation on a via ferrata (iron way) style pathway.
Various components of the adventure 'sequence' will be accessible for friends of jumpers who prefer not to jump.
