Futuristic resort planned for Taupo

16 Oct 2007

It's being described as a resort that'll showcase New Zealand in a way never seen before.

It is Hotel Hingarae, a futuristic six-star development to be built on the western slopes of Lake Taupo. Plans for the resort have just been unveiled, revealing a development that is expected to attract a 'global pool of wealthy Generation X buyers aged between 30 and 50 years old'.

"Hingarae will take futuristic design and extreme luxury to a level not yet seen internationally," says Greg Hickman, founder and Managing Director of Hingarae Developments Limited. "It will reinforce New Zealand's place as a premium travel destination and position it at the leading edge of the designer hotel movement."

Greg Hickman says once the NZ$75 million resort is opened in New Zealand , there will be an international rollout of Hingarae resorts around the globe, including sites in India, Bali, Eastern Europe and Australia.

Hingarae is being marketed internationally by Sydney-based Cramer Property, built by Taurange based CBC Construction and designed by X.PACE architects who’ve designed resorts in the Maldives, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Shanghai.

"The Hingarae architecture is unique and key to the Hingarae brand strategy that aims to create a lifestyle that is uncompromising in its delivery of an almost 'other-worldly' experience and on a quality level that is world-best," says Hickman.

Greg Hickman also says that environmental sustainability will be a feature of the development with the use of solar power, electric cars and Segways around the 100 acre site as well as the most energy efficient appliances and practices being employed.

Two large areas of native bush will remain intact as conservation areas on the site, and building is expected to start early 2008, taking two years to complete.

The 28 two/three bedroom, 200m² Module residences come fully furnished with a median price of NZ$3.2 million.
