Recognition at home for hit comedy duo
28 Nov 2007
Comic musical duo Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement of hit show Flight of the Conchords have been named 2007 Wellingtonians of the Year.
The award was presented in mid-November 2007 and caps a year of staggering success individually and collectively for the two.
Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City.
Since June they have gone from being unknown in the United States to securing a second series of their show on cable network Home Box Office, best known for prime time hits such as The Sopranos and Sex and the City.
Flight of the Conchords has also been met with positive reviews in the UK since it began airing on BBC Four in September.
As the first series in the United States went to air, viewers have also had the opportunity to see Clement in the lead role for comedy film Eagle vs Shark directed by friend Taika Waititi, also from Wellington.
