New Zealand Minister takes a swipe at British Celebrity

29 Nov 2007

New Zealand has hit out at British celebrity Heather Mills over her claims that eating meat and dairy products is contributing to global warming.

New Zealand is a major meat and dairy producing country and Agriculture Minister Jim Anderton has accused the estranged wife of Beatle Sir Paul McCartney as being "off the planet" and not having "any scientific credibility".

Heather Mills is fronting the billboard campaign by Vegetarians International Voice for Animals, a British organisation which advocates a non-meat diet to reduce global warming.

The New Zealand Government Minister is reported to be infuriated by the campaign and has told reporters that Mills is far from scientifically qualified to draw relationships between the production of meat and dairy products and global warming.

"The picture on one billboard associating meat and dairy with a burned-out wasteland and hellish fires suggests Ms Mills has never seen a New Zealand dairy farm. For her information, they are lush and green."

Anderton went on to say, "Let the facts get in the way of your ignorance and prejudices. Come and see a dairy farm in New Zealand and see what it looks like compared to what you're portraying."

Mills has already attracted international attention by advocating the drinking of rats' milk to save the planet from global warming.
