Auckland to showcase top Australasian art
01 Mar 2007
The Auckland Art Fair, on from 18-20 May 2007, will showcase the best selection of Australasian contemporary art ever exhibited in New Zealand.
Thirty leading galleries from New Zealand and Australia will come together under one roof to feature their most prominent artists and artworks.
The second biennial Auckland Art Fair finds a new home this year at the Marine Events Centre on the Viaduct Harbour, reflecting the event's growth of a 50% increase in exhibitors since the inaugural Fair in 2005.
'We are extremely pleased to have a larger and stronger contingent of exhibiting galleries this year,' says Fair director Deborah White. 'We believe it is a celebration of the outstanding success of the inaugural Auckland Art Fair, as well as a testament to the creative force that is continuously growing in the city.'
An expected 10,000 visitors will have a chance to view and purchase from a selection of over 600 works of art over the course of three days. The Fair is open to everyone from the most dedicated art enthusiast to the modestly curious - and offers a rare opportunity to experience the best showcase of New Zealand, Pacific and Australian art all in one venue.
Works by some of Australasia's most outstanding artists, including Michael Parekowhai, Pae White, Judy Millar and Linde Ivimey will be available, along with an indoor sculpture garden and public installations by internationally renowned artists Len Lye and Tony Oursler.
The official opening of the Fair will be marked by a Vernissage gala evening on 17 May.
