Signature arts event returns to Auckland

15 Apr 2007

Auckland will showcase top photographic talent in the 4th annual Festival of Photography running from 1-24 June.

The festival celebrates photography from both established and emerging photo artists through a variety of events and exhibitions held across Auckland. Within the Creative Exposure programme, work from over 200 individual photographers will be showcased, including some of New Zealand’s most recognised photographers.

The signature event of the festival is the Auckland Photo Day held on 9 June. This competition displays photos captured by Aucklanders to reflect a moment in their city. The resulting images are as diverse in form, subject and mood as the Aucklanders behind the cameras.

Other highlights this year include the exhibition ‘Another View: A selection of 20th century international photographs from the Seresin family collection’. Presented at the Auckland Museum, this collection of international photography comes from cinematographer Michael Seresin who has assembled a collection of images by international master photographers. The collection includes work by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Andre Kertesz, Bill Brandt and Man Ray.

Lopdell House in Titirangi will host ‘All Dogs Shot’, a collection of black and white photographs shot in New Zealand and around the world by acclaimed New Zealand film director, Roger Donaldson. The Gus Fisher Gallery will display a group of New Zealand premier photographers, while the Aotea Centre will feature the top 30 finalists and winners from Auckland Photo Day 2006.

The full festival programme will be announced on 17 April.
