Entries selected for WOW
03 Aug 2007
A record number of international entries will feature in the 2007 Montana WearableArt (WOW) Awards Show.
This year's entries include designers from New Zealand and around the world, including as far a field as India, Thailand, Canada and the UK.
Renowned New Zealand fashion designer Trelise Cooper and sculptor Neil Dawson joined WOW Creative Director Suzie Moncrieff in judging the modeled entries.
"We were very impressed with the calibre of entries which are of a truly international standard," Trelise Cooper said.
WOW judges
Trelise Cooper, a renowned New Zealand fashion designer, brings her knowledge of fabric, design and fashion to the judging team.
Neil Dawson complements Cooper's skills with his sculptural and artistic background. Dawson, a first time WOW judge, has been "overwhelmed and excited by the concepts and lateral use of materials" in the broad range of garments.
The garments will go through another two judging sessions before a decision is made on who will take the coveted 'Supreme Montana WOW Award'.
Seven sections
The awards will be decided in August when the garments have been individually choreographed on stage under theatrical lighting and special effects.
There are seven sections in this year's show with many of these having creative themes to inspire designers. Examples include the 'HP Children's Section: Dreams and Nightmares' and 'Scenic Circle Hotels Man Unleashed: Reinterpret the Suit'.
The 2007 Montana WOW Awards will be showcased in Wellington from 20 - 30 September 2007.
