Weta Workshop wins the superhero race
07 Jan 2008
New Zealand’s Weta Workshop has won the battle to create costumes for a new Hollywood blockbuster featuring well-known superheroes.
The Wellington based physical effects company, best known for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, will create and design costumes for the movie ''Justice League of America'' to be filmed in Sydney this year.
The highly anticipated movie will bring together the world’s biggest superheroes including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Aquaman.
The film’s Wellington-based American producer, Barrie Osborne, confimed Weta Workshop’s involvement. "A lot of people thought it would be too hard, that you can only make those things in Hollywood. But Weta are doing all the costumes and they're doing a brilliant job."
Osborne has been involved in many Hollywood films, including producing Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings, as well as The Matrix and Apocalypse Now.
Based on the DC comic, the movie will be directed by Australian George Miller of Max Max and Happy Feet. The cast to wear Weta Workshop’s superhero costumes has yet to be named.
