Yes, we're on holiday!
24 Dec 2008
It's no secret that New Zealand goes on holiday over the Christmas period - it's one of the great things about living in this laid-back country where the festive season falls plum in the middle of summer holidays.
Tourism New Zealand's Media team is also heading off for a break and - while you will not see any changes to this website over Christmas and New Year - we’ll be back in 2009 with more news and features, as well as some extra additions to our continually developing site.
Award winning year
2008 has been a successful year for New Zealand as a destination - we’ve notched up 12 significant awards:
- 'overall winner' and 'best destination' at the international Responsible Tourism Awards
- 'favourite destination' for fifth consecutive year by readers of Condé Nast Traveller (UK)
- 'top country' by readers of Wanderlust travel publication
- 'favourite destination' by readers of Britain's Guardian and Observer newspapers
- 'favourite long-haul holiday destination' by guardian.co.uk
- fifth 'favourite destination' by Lonely Planet readers in the 2008 Travellers' Pulse Awards 2008
- 'country of the year' by Australia's Getaway travel show.
And ... we could go on but you’ll find references to the long list of awards in press releases on this website, as well as videos, features and stories that support the reasons for so many accolades.
Leading the way
New Zealand continues to lead the way in many areas - sustainable tourism, focusing on nature and green initiatives that will protect the natural environment for the enjoyment of future generations; luxury travel; award-winning food and wine; sport and adventure; fashion, innovation in business - and we look forward to bringing you information and updates in 2009.
We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Thank you for your support and sorry, but we're off to the beach to lie under a pohutukawa tree!
