Suspected Sightings of Mr Monopoly
07 Feb 2008
From New York to New Zealand, speculation has arisen that Mr Monopoly is checking out Queenstown in person.
Queenstown is the only New Zealand city nominated for Monopoly's global edition of the board game. Voting is currently underway to decide which of the 68 cities worldwide make it onto the board.
Destination Queenstown CEO David Kennedy says he's received a number of unconfirmed reports placing Mr Monopoly in the southern town.
"He has apparently been spotted heading up the Skyline Gondola, having a coffee in the Mall, taking in the view of The Remarkables, enjoying a Shotover jetboat ride and is suspected of bungy jumping."
"Queenstown is hovering at number #12 and #13 on the Monopoly leaderboard and I think Mr Monopoly has come to see for himself what makes this top 20 town so special."
Voting continues daily until the 29 February, and Mr Kennedy encouraged everyone to keep voting.
"We've had fantastic feedback and support from people here in New Zealand and from around the world. But it's important they keep voting for Queenstown and tell their friends and family. We've still got three weeks of voting, and would love to see Queenstown not only in the top 20, but break into the top 10 on the leaderboard."
The Monopoly Here&Now Global Edition will be released in August 2008
