New Zealand Wins Top Country Award
04 Feb 2008
New Zealand has taken the title of Top Country for the second year running in the Wanderlust awards in the UK.
Nearly 3,000 readers of the Wanderlust magazine voted in the annual awards, which are based on customer satisfaction over the past year. New Zealand received an impressive 96.86% satisfaction.
The silver screen has had a large influence on votes for the award with New Zealand’s scenery featuring in blockbusters such as The Lord of the Rings and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The country is also tipped to be the location for the recently announced Hobbit films.
Wanderlust editor-in-chief Lyn Hughes says, ''Film offers destinations an amazing opportunity to really fire people’s imaginations. New Zealand has long been a favourite with our readers and moviemakers alike''
A close second in the Wanderlust awards was Madagascar, followed by Namibia in third place.
