New Zealand news bulletin is stripped bare - literally!

28 Mar 2008

The call is out for news presenters willing to ‘bare all’ for the sake of the news.

New Zealand’s independent television channel, Alt TV will begin broadcasting naked news bulletins in April.

The channel is currently searching for female presenters for ‘Naked News Flash’ who are articulate, confident - and comfortable in their own skin! According to Alt, applicants should have ''no inhibitions on reporting on the facts that matter, delivering hard hitting commentary and showing their 'assets' in front of a large news hungry audience.''

The channel is preparing for a four week search to get the right person. Although applicants don’t need to show tapes of previous newsreading experience, they must instead provide a topless photo and proof that they are over 20.

Alt's creative director Oliver Driver has borrowed the idea for the show from Canada. The Canadian nakednews.com website began in 2000 and at the height of its popularity was receiving six million hits a month.

The show is bound to draw critics but Driver says: ''integrity [of the news] will not be sacrificed for flesh.

''Naturally there will be a strong sense of newsworthiness on the show with highlights from the daily news. But there will of course be that little bit of titillation to draw in the viewer's attention.''

For the naked newsreader chosen, the flash at flame could be fleeting - the contract will only be for three months.

The first broadcast of the naked news is due on 28 April 2008.
