Potts, trollies and roast dinners

15 Apr 2008

Last time it was airport trollies now he’s talking roast dinners. ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star Paul Potts is in love with New Zealand and is quick to list great New Zealand experiences he’s encountered on his current international tour.

It’s the second time the legendary TV talent show discovery has visited New Zealand since his meteoric rise to stardom nine months ago. And while Potts is now an international star it’s his humble attitude that shows his feet are still firmly on the ground.

Potts told a capacity audience at his final New Zealand show in Auckland that he and his wife had enjoyed three roast dinners in a week since arriving in New Zealand. On his last visit he commented on the joy of finding luggage trollies at Auckland airport that were not only readily available but functioned properly as well. Small things to some, but all part of what Potts says made it a joy to come back to New Zealand. ''I love this country and I’ll definitely be back again,'' Potts told the crowd. He said he had been blown away by the beauty of Queenstown and had enjoyed every minute of his time in Christchurch, Wellington and Rotorua.

Having captured the hearts of millions throughout the world when he won the Britain’s Got Talent show with his haunting rendition of Puccine’s Nessun Dorma, Potts showed convincingly that it was more than just a one off. He won over local audiences here with his powerful voice and unassuming appreciation of New Zealand and its people.

His co performer for the Australasian tour is 18 year old Rotorua popera star Elizabeth Marvelly who Potts says is ''a typical example of how New Zealand punches above its weight in terms of talent.''

Potts and Marvelly have now moved on to Australia where they will sing in major cities including a special performance in the Sydney Opera House.
