Auditions in SA for Jackson's new movie
14 May 2008
Auditions have started in Johannesburg for a big-budget sci-fi film produced by Peter Jackson.
South African newspaper The Times said some of the alien invasion film 'District 9', directed by Neill Blomkamp, would be shot in Soweto later this year.
The South African film industry has nicknamed it "Star Wars in Soweto".
Blomkamp co-wrote the District 9 script with partner Terri Tatchell. Jackson will be involved as producer through his production company, WingNut Films.
Jackson and Blomkamp were to have worked together in Wellington on the feature film adaptation of Halo but the project has now been mothballed. District 9 will now be Blomkamp’s feature film directorial debut.
As well as Jackson’s hands-on involvement as producer of District 9, his WETA Workshop facility is prepping to do the visual effects.
The movie is due to be released on August 14, 2009.
