Dixon Hailed a New Zealand Hero

He is being described as one of New Zealand's greatest sporting heroes.
Scott Dixon is the first New Zealander to have won the Indy 500, and has milked the biggest single payday by a New Zealand sportsman, winning US$2 million.
New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark has described Dixon's win as 'phenominal' and she has placed him in the same echelon as great Kiwi athletes Peter Snell, Murray Halberg and golfer Bob Charles.
One of the men who helped bankroll Dixon's first foray into North American racing, Aucklander Peter "PJ" Johnston, has described the win as 'history in the making'.
"With all due respect to Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme and Chris Amon, this is the biggest thing ever in New Zealand motorsport."
27 year old Scott Dixon is the son of two dirt track racers, and seemed destined to make his mark in some form of motorsport. He began racing at the age of 13 getting a special dispensation to race in the New Zealand Formula Vee series.
While born in Australia he was brought up in New Zealand. Apart from racing his other loves include trains and occasionally competing in triathlons. He says on his official website that he has a secret obsession with chocolate and his favourite gizmo is his ipod. He is married to Emma Davies.
