World record could tumble in NZ attempt
11 Aug 2008
A team of New Zealand gymnasts is to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for forward rolls.
The attempt will be made in the tourist city of Rotorua in the North Island on 16 September, during the build up to the Indo Pacific Trampoline and Tumbling Championships.
World record rules
The Mid Island Gym Sports team will make their attempt under strict guidelines.
The team must be restricted to 12 people, and the record is based on the distance covered as they roll forward, one at a time.
Each participant must complete a pre-determined length of a measured circuit before handing over to the next. Pauses between rolls must last no longer than five seconds.
According to Guinness World Records guidelines, the record attempt must take place in full view of at least two witnesses.
Indo Pacific championships
A large group of gym sports enthusiasts are expected in Rotorua for the championships. International contestants from Japan, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, South Africa and Canada will join national representatives of New Zealand gym sports clubs.
The championships include four separate, extreme sports: synchronised trampoline, double mini-trampoline, individual trampoline and tumbling.
The Indo Pacific Championships will be held at Rotorua’s Energy Events Centre from 15 - 19 October.
