NZ hotels on world's hot list
20 Jan 2009
Five of New Zealand’s top hotels have made it onto the list of 500 best hotels in the world just published by international magazine Travel + Leisure.
Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook Resort scores a spot on the magazine’s sixth annual ‘500 best hotels’ list, as do Rotorua’s Treetops Lodge, Taupo’s Huka Lodge, Auckland’s new Hyatt Regency and The George in Christchurch.
World’s best survey
An international team of writers from Travel + Leisure culled the 500 highest-rated hotels from a survey that identified special aspects of each property.
Millbrook sales and marketing manager Sarah Stacey says the experience of staying on a five-star 500-acre rural property so close to Queenstown and world-renowned ski fields made Millbrook stand out.
Recently Millbrook was also voted third best overseas golf resort by Australian magazine Luxury Travel and Style, behind Scotland’s legendary St Andrews Links and New Zealand’s Kauri Cliffs.
NZ’s luxury market
The latest accolade for New Zealand hotels comes on top of a growing list that is cementing the country’s position in the global luxury market.
Earlier this month Huka Lodge was also named among the best luxury hotels on Earth in the Forbes Traveler ‘400 Review’.
And Rotorua’s Treetops Lodge and Wilderness Experience picked up a new international honour late last year in the prestigious Condé Nast (USA) Traveler Readers Choice Awards 2008 - listed in the ‘Top 5 Australia and Pacific Hotels’ category.
