NZ luxury holiday fulfils 25-year dream

A Californian couple who’ve waited 25 years to fulfil a dream to visit New Zealand, will be making the trip in style having won an on-line auction for a luxury holiday.
Terrence and Diane Cowman, of Woodland Hills in California, scored New Zealand’s luxury travel deal of the century, winning a NZ$31,500 package for just NZ$7,500 as part of an initiative by a New Zealand luxury tourism company.
The Cowmans decided to bid for the ‘Give it up to Live it up’ campaign on eBay which offered two people a life of luxury in New Zealand for a month. They won after a last minute flurry of bidding before the auction closed yesterday (14.05.09).

The couple say New Zealand has been on the top of their list for a long time, and they are very excited about the trip.
"Just before we met, fell in love, and married, I was planning to work in New Zealand for a couple of years," Mr Cowman said.
"Two months after we were married my wife became pregnant with our daughter, who is now almost 25 years old. So the priorities changed ... this seemed like a great opportunity so I had to bid."
They were not winter vacationers, he said, so they would wait until the summer before taking up the luxury holiday package which allows them to experience the best New Zealand lodges and view the country in style with personalised air, sea and luxury land travel - for less than it costs most backpackers to go by bus and stay in hostels.
‘Steal deal’
Organised by New Zealand Luxury, a company that represents a collection of the country’s leading luxury tourism operators, the luxury package attracted 36 bids and sold at a quarter of its market value.
Organisers say that with the current state of the New Zealand dollar and the quality of luxury tourism included in the package, the trip is a "steal at the price".
Lap of luxury
The Cowmans will enjoy four weeks accommodation at some of New Zealand’s leading luxury lodges, boutique hotels and one of the world’s most exclusive private villas.
They can also opt to fly in style on a private jet, experience some exclusive helicopter adventures, cruise aboard a private yacht and be chauffeur-driven in luxury vehicles through some of New Zealand’s most stunning natural scenery.
