Air New Zealand plays Cupid to singles

Love is in the air at Air New Zealand.
The New Zealand airline has just announced the world’s first ‘matchmaking flight’ - the trip of a life-time for those who’d travel the world for love or have ever felt sparks for the stranger in the middle seat.
Testing the ‘opposites attract’ concept, Air New Zealand plans to fly singles to the opposite side of the Pacific with the aim of finding each a partner - either in air or in New Zealand.
The ‘matchmaking flight’ is scheduled to depart Los Angeles International Airport for Auckland, New Zealand, on 13 October, 2009.
Love is in the air
The ‘love is in the air’ experience will include a pre-flight gate party, themed food, drink, games and entertainment, and a large-scale, singles-only party at Auckland’s Sky City.
"Air New Zealand is always looking for fun ways to improve our customers’ experience, and we love the thought of playing matchmaker to help them find a mate in New Zealand or in the air," said Cupid-in-chief - Roger Poulton, Air New Zealand's vice president the Americas.
"If your dating profile says you enjoy fine wine and long walks on the beach, then New Zealand is your perfect place for romance," Poulton said.
"And let’s not forget our charming Kiwi accents - what more could an American want?"
Online dating profile
In the six months leading up to the "once-in-a-lifetime flight", ticketed single travellers will be able to upload their personal online dating profile onto a social networking community at www.thematchmakingflight.com.
Once they have created a personal profile, the singles will be able to begin connecting with each other in preparation for the flight.
