Blanket Bay makes Condé Nast world’s best list
09 Sep 2009
Readers of one of the world’s most influential travel magazines have named luxury lodge Blanket Bay, near Queenstown, as the best leisure hotel in Australasia and the South Pacific.
The 2009 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel Awards also placed Blanket Bay 10th in the list of high scores irrespective of category, an achievement marking Blanket Bay as one of the best luxury lodges anywhere in the world.
Blanket Bay accolades
Blanket Bay is an expansive lakeside property on a 65,000-acre high country farm, combining luxury with the unique natural characteristics of the region.
The multi-award winning property has previously made the pages of glossy magazines as among the world’s best, but Blanket Bay manager Philip Jenkins says being named the best leisure hotel in the entire region is certainly the highest accolade yet.
"New Zealand has been ranked as the second best destination in the world, second only to Italy, by the magazine’s readers. Our location, in one of the most spectacular places in New Zealand, combined with the unforgettable experience we work to produce for each and every one of our guests has been recognised by Condé Nast readers," Jenkins said.
Other Kiwi successes in the awards included Air New Zealand voted best long-haul leisure airline, and New Zealand voted second in the best destination category and fourth overall in ‘the best of the best’ section.
Blanket Bay cuisine
Under executive chef Mark Sycamore, Blanket Bay has earned a reputation for fine cuisine.
An award-winning chef himself, Sycamore's culinary team has several national award-winners including chef Daniel Reynolds who was recently named the 2009 NZ Commis Chef of the Year - his third culinary success this year.
Condé Nast Traveller
Condé Nast Traveller is a glossy lifestyle publication with an emphasis on luxury travel. It has a circulation of 85,000, with 91 percent of readers holidaying three or more times a year.
The awards are the result of an extensive survey of the UK magazine’s readers, who are asked to choose the best the travel world has to offer - everything from hotels and spas to airlines and airports. Readers are then asked to rate their choices according to various criteria such as service and value for money.
