Top Kiwi designers to show at new fashion fest

Auckland Fashion Festival
16 March 2010

Trelise Cooper, Zambesi, Kate Sylvester, Stolen Girlfriends and Huffer are some of the big names of Kiwi fashion that will be showing at New Zealand’s inaugural Auckland Fashion Festival.

Sixteen of New Zealand’s top designers will take to the catwalks later this month with the first public showing of their Autumn/Winter 2010 collections. International label Ed Hardy is also expected to make a runway appearance.

Created by the founders of NZ Fashion Week, the Auckland Fashion Festival will comprise a major show followed by a weekend designer garage sale. The Designer Garage Sale is already a popular highlight of Fashion Week, offering designer items at deep discounts.

Festival for everyone
Although Fashion Week is an important event on the New Zealand fashion calendar, most designers are only able to show their collections to trade and media.

"Fashion Week is primarily a trade event and is closed to the public, so we have created a Fashion Festival that is open to all the fashion followers of New Zealand," festival director Pieter Stewart said.

The garments shown on the runway at the Auckland Fashion Festival will be immediately available in the shops, with each designer showing 10 garments to live music.

Around 40 designers will then put their end-of-summer stock on the racks at huge discounts during the Designer Fashion Sale.

The fashion show is limited to 700 tickets. Guests will be greeted with a glass of New Zealand Pelorus NY by Cloudy Bay, and there will be music and dancing after the show.

Auckland Fashion Festival: fashion designers
Kiwi fashion houses showing at the Auckland Fashion Festival are: Adrian Hailwood, Andrea Moore, Annah Stretton, Barkers, Cybele, Helen Cherry/Workshop, Huffer, Juliette Hogan, Kate Sylvester, Moochi, Paula Ryan, Stolen Girlfriends, Trelise Cooper, Zambesi and The Carpenter’s Daughter.
