Phil Oliver - Mountain Biking Guru
Phil Oliver is a Central Otago mountain biking legend. He is a man who locals acknowledge as a guru of the sport. A veteran competitor, Phil knows all the trails from four wheel drive and single trails, to the technical cross country rides and the fast down hill courses littered around the area.
Originally from Auckland, Phil left the country's biggest city for the south ten years ago and hasn't looked back. In 2002 he decided to make his passion for mountain biking his job, and launched Altitude Adventures.
Phil guides hundreds of mountain bikers every year from autumn through spring. Each ride is tailored to the level of the participants. With many of the rides challenging even for the seasoned rider Phil maintains 'we can tone it down' if need be.
Phil is familiar with trails all over New Zealand, and every winter he heads overseas to lead riders on foreign trails, through places such as Bolivia, Vietnam and the Himalayas.
Currently Phil is currently a tutor at the local Cromwell College. His next goal being to establish a nationally rated downhill track in the Clyde township.
