Fly By Wire
New Zealand is a nation of innovators, and Neil Harrap - the man behind the Fly By Wire - is right up there among them.
The Fly By Wire is the world's first adventure ride offering full pilot control of a high-speed tethered plane (which looks more like a rocket). It also lays claim to being the world's fastest adventure ride, reaching speeds of 171kmph.
Decked out in red flying overalls, goggles and a helmet, the pilot is strapped into the open-topped rocket ship, lying face down. From there, it's an experience of exhilarating speed, weightlessness and serenity in a six-minute flight.
As Harrap says, it's the closest most people will ever get to taking control of a fighter plane.
The Fly By Wire is located in Queenstown and is the only one in the world.
