World of WearableArt
The World of WearableArt Awards Show is a two hour theatrical spectacle held each spring in New Zealand’s capital, Wellington. A montage of theatre, dance and art, the show is attended by people from all over New Zealand and around the world.
The event, which began in Nelson, was created by local sculptor Suzie Moncrieff as an opportunity for the many artists and craftspeople in the area to showcase their talent. The first show was held in 1987 simply as a promotion for an art gallery in Nelson.
The World of WearableArt and Classic Cars Museum opened in Nelson in 2001 specifically to house the fantastic creations entered into the competition over the years.
