Maori Experienz
A number of firsts have been created in Aotearoa New Zealand, with the launch of a national consortium of Maori operators.
The Maori Experienz initiative is the first time Maori tourism, indigenous kai (food) companies, winemakers, artists and contemporary entertainers have come together in a single enterprise.
It is the first time Maori tourism product has been packaged on a nationwide basis, alongside food, wine, art and entertainment.
Former Air New Zealand inbound development manager, Graham Hall, who chairs the consortium's trust organisation says 'Maori Experienz is, without question, an export-led initiative'.
The Maori Experienz strategy is to highlight, at every opportunity, the point of difference that indigenous Maori offer within the New Zealand context.
'Many countries have beautiful lakes, rivers, mountains and beaches, what they don't have is indigenous Maori,' say Hall.
Maori Experienz promotes engagement with indigenous Maori, to provide access to the hospitality, wit and wisdom of modern Maori.
In recent years, there has been a marked upsurge in the number of Maori tourism operations in this country, largely in the spheres of Maori cultural tourism, eco-tourism and adventure tourism.
