Coromandel Curators
Doug Johansen and Jan Poole have received Queen’s Service Medals for their contribution to nature in New Zealand. Regarded as two of New Zealand’s most respected guides, they run their business Kiwi Dundee Adventures in the stunning Coromandel Peninsula area in the North Island, about two hours east of New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland. As an example of a simple one-day walk in the Coromandel, Doug and Jan show visitors through historic gold caves sparkling with glow-worms, across white sand beaches and magnificent cliffs decorated with ancient pohutukawa trees, to old Maori pa (fortresses) and Hot Water Beach. A wilderness adventure walk features volcanic peaks, ancient kauri, rimu and rata trees and the world's largest tree ferns. Crystal clear rivers and rock pools feature in an area of tranquil rainforest.
