Ulva's Guided Walks
Ulva Island, situated in Whaka o Te Wera (Paterson Inlet) on Rakiura (Stewart Island), is a sanctuary for visitors to learn about native flora and fauna from a Maori perspective.
Guide Ulva Goodwillie, who is named after the island, is a direct descendant of the first people on Stewart Island. As mana whenua (guardian of the land through ancestral links), Ulva connects the visitor with Rakiura’s spiritual heritage and its cultural and conversation values.
A highlight of her walking programme is a leisurely ramble which introduces visitors to Ulva Island’s history, scenery and spectacular birdlife.
