Cultural Walks
Heritage Trails give walkers the chance to meet real New Zealanders and discover the cultural, historic and natural heritage of the country. The trails are self-drive, walking or cycling trails exploring much of New Zealand, from urban centres to rural and remote areas.
Heritage Trails have been operating in New Zealand since 1989 with more than 120 trails developed by community volunteers who value their heritage. Walkers can pick up Heritage Trail brochures from Visitor Information Centres around the country.
These trails give the walkers a chance to explore the social dimensions of each region of New Zealand and enable them to find out about the original settlers, early industries and the land wars.
