New Zealand’s ever-changing landscape is the showcase for some of the world’s most picturesque and accessible golf courses. With the second highest number of courses per capita, there is variety of landscapes and green fees to suit all levels of golfer.

Great hospitality and service have also helped New Zealand earn its reputation as a top international golfing destination.

Golfing Paradise

New Zealand is just behind Scotland when it comes to the highest number of golf courses per capita in the world - almost 400 golf courses and facilities to choose from, and each with its own individual charm and attractions.

From small town clubs amongst rolling farmland, and dramatic cliff top greens with expansive coastal views, to stunning lakeside and alpine settings or steamy geothermal atmospheres, New Zealand golf courses are as diverse and dramatic as the landscape itself.

Visiting golfers will find a welcome on traditional rural fairways near every country town or settlement, local golf clubs in towns and cities, and a string of internationally recognised luxury courses.

New Zealand golfing experiences

Accessibility is a major feature of the New Zealand golf story. Nowhere in New Zealand is further than 45 minutes by road from a golf course - and the nearest is usually just a few minutes down the road.

Green fees start at less than NZ$10 (US$6). And, while a series of world renowned resort courses cater for the top end of the market, some of New Zealand’s best courses are less than NZ$100 (US$60).

It’s no wonder, then, that golf is New Zealand’s highest participation sport - #1 for men, and #2 for women.

Kiwi golfing heroes

New Zealand’s small population has produced a long list of top international players, among them rising stars Lydia Ko and Danny Lee, top-ranked Michael Campbell and all-time legend Sir Bob Charles. International caddy Steve Williams is another Kiwi who also learned his trade on the greens at home.
