The Buried Village is situated in a valley above Lake Tarawera.
The park is surrounded by a mixture of native and exotic forest; amongst the excavated sites you will find a special peacefulness. The 12 acre park-like setting is filled with tall trees, meadows, native birds, wildlife, peace and tranquillity. Native birds fly freely through the park including Keruru, Tui, Bellbird and Shinning Cuckoo. The crystal clear TeWairoa stream also flows through the park and teams with wild rainbow trout. The 30 metre TeWairoa falls can be viewed from a steep track which follows the falls as they cascade down through dense native forest.
