Palmerston North Electric Power Station Inc.
Keith Street,
Terrace End,
Palmerston North
Palmerston North Borough Council officially opened this power station in November 1924. It generated electricity then with three suction-gas engines.
In 1936, these were joined by two much larger British Polar diesel engines. These two can be started (by arrangement) for visiting groups or at open days. Otherwise, explore (also by arrangement) this example of industrial heritage as it gradually becomes an electrical museum.
The large brick building has Category One heritage status with the Palmerston North City Council.
