ZEALANDIA: The Karori Sanctuary Experience
Waiapu Road,
Karori,
Wellington
Experience New Zealand’s natural heritage, just minutes from the centre of Wellington. A predator-proof fence surrounds the 250-hectare valley providing a safe haven for some of New Zealand’s most endangered birds like little spotted Kiwi, Saddleback, Kaka and Stitchbird - usually only seen on offshore islands.
For first time visitors a guided tour is recommended. Available during the day and night, experienced guides share the secrets and developments of the Sanctuary. Alternatively, self-guide with the aid of a Sanctuary map and spend as long as you like exploring. Other attractions include a scenic boat ride, two unique historic dams, historical buildings, Morning Star goldmine, bird feeding stations, bird cameras and much more.
