Waitangi Treaty Grounds
Tau Henare Drive, Waitangi

Waitangi Treaty Grounds
Waitangi Treaty Grounds is New Zealand's most historic site. As the "Birthplace of the Nation" it is where the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed between Maori Chiefs and the British Crown on February 6th February 1840.

Personally guided tours of the Gardens of National Significance feature the historic Treaty House. Originally built in 1834 for James Busby (the first British Resident to New Zealand), it is one of the country’s oldest surviving buildings and is classified as a museum. It has been fully restored to the 1840's period. A fully carved Maori meeting house also stands beside the Treaty House. See the world's largest Maori ceremonial waka/canoe.

Group tours, weddings, conferences and Waitangi Day draw 200,000 annually.
