Paddle Steamer Waimarie. New Zealand's Last Paddle Steamer. P/S Waimarie, built by Yarrow & Company at Poplar London in 1899, entered service on the Whanganui River in June 1900. P/S Waimarie was one of an extensive riverboat fleet that plied the Whanganui River carrying cargo, river dwellers and tourists. Now faithfully restored, still operating on steam and manually fired with coal the vessel operates scheduled cruises for the joy and pleasure of the travelling public. Come and experience it for yourself.
