Whangarei Museum & Kiwi House @ Heritage Park
State highway 14,
Maunu,
Whangarei
Just 5 minutes from the CBD you'll find Northland's best nocturnal Kiwi House. Also on display is New Zealand's Morepork Owl which you will hear calling at night up and down the country. The endangered green gecko and the pacific gecko are on display - but you'll have to look hard - they are masters of disguise!
With ever changing special exhibitions, the Museum is home to significant Maori taonga (Maori treasures)and natural history exhibits.
Step back in time in one of the heritage buildings on the property - choose from the 1886 Clarke Homestead, Oruaiti Chapel or the original Women's Jail - or visit them all!
The property is 25ha of bush, park and farm land, so pack a picnic and enjoy the views and friendly staff.
