Lake Hood is situated five minutes from Ashburton boasts seven kilometres of shoreline, water ski park, international rowing course and a residential subdivision, the perfect recreational area for all water lovers.

Wheels Week in May is a must, involves heritage attractions that can be explored all year round, including Ashburton Vintage Car Museum, Plains Railway Historical Village, Lynn Historical Woodworking Trust, Ashburton Aviation Museum, huge collection of planes from yesteryear displays as an air force training base during WWII.
