Maritime Heritage River Cruises aboard motor vessel Wairua est 1904. Wairua was built by Yarrow & Co at Poplar London & joined the Hatrick & Co fleet on the Whanganui River in 1904.Wairua was used extensively on the section of river above Pipiriki to service Hatricks houseboat and the bridge to nowhere settlement. Now faithfully restored Wairua offers day trips by arrangement or charter to Hipango Park a bush reserve, only accessible by river, some 26k up river from Wanganui Town. Here you will find bush walks, a historic Maori fighting pa site, and a magnificent picnic ground with shelter, BBQ's, toilets and water available. Native birds & wild animals can be viewed. Over night camping trips to the Park can also be arranged.
